WRITTEN DISCUSSIONS AND COMMUNICATION
While you may spend a portion of class time in live video meetings, you will also post reflections in discussion forums or offer written critiques of peers’ work.

If written comments are directed towards a particular individual, remember that this is one of your classmates (or your instructor). To put it simply, don’t write anything that you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying in person.

Second, consider how tone, especially humor and sarcasm, may be more complicated in the written medium. Always being aware of how the written word is received can help avoid confusion and hurt feelings.

ONLINE VIDEO RESOURCES
When we join a live video session in an online class, we’re inviting people into our spaces and homes in a small way. While it can be fun to share our pets and plants with our peers, keep in mind what else you might be sharing, in your background or elsewhere. Be mindful of the sensitivities of your peers and of professionalism in general.

Under guidelines outlined in the SVA Handbook (and in Federal laws governing higher education), students are expected to fully participate in their class activities and cannot expect anonymity in an online learning environment. Therefore, you should connect to online video meetings with both audio and video. However, if you have a particular issue with sharing your video, you should contact your instructor to discuss the problem.
